Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd help Carmarthenshire schools

One of Carmarthenshire County Council’s framework contractors has been helping two Llanelli schools to bloom and grow.
Kidwelly-based construction firm Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd has helped Swiss Valley Primary School (above) and Carway Primary School (below) to build vegetable plots where pupils can develop their education in a hands-on environment.
During the build, the company also introduced children to various aspects of health and safety by bringing along ‘Ivor Goodsite’, a character from Considerate Constructor, the body which promotes jobs in the construction industry and construction site safety.
They teamed up with building supplies firm Travis Perkins and Carmarthen Garden Centre to construct the beds at Carway School, and with Swiss Valley Garden Centre to create the beds at Swiss Valley school.
Dyfrig Dalziel, said: “There are several strands to the project, including healthy eating, the environment, recycling and health and safety.
“The aim is for the children to have fun, but in enjoying themselves they are also picking up key messages which are part of the school curriculum. “I am extremely happy to be able to offer the company’s assistance to Carway and Swiss Valley schools. At both schools, the pupils have worked extremely hard to achieve their objectives.
“It was our great pleasure to work with children from our community and to be able to pass on our knowledge and experience of the environment and health and safety issues. We are looking forward to working with more schools from our community next year.”
Rhian Evans, headteacher at Carway School, said: “We are very grateful to Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd and the other businesses involved in this project. The children have gained a great deal from the project and I am certain that the knowledge they have gained will stand them in good stead in the future.”
Ceri Morris, headteacher at Swiss Valley School, said: “Many thanks go to Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd and all who helped make this project work. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the project and I am sure the vegetable plots will be of great use to us for years to come.”
