Llanelli man jailed for eight months for counterfeiting DVDs

A Llanelli man has been jailed for eight months and ordered to hand over £71,000 he made from counterfeiting DVDs. Nigel Thomas appeared at Swansea Crown for sentencing and for the imposition of a Proceeds of Crime Act order, having previously pleaded guilty to an offence of participating in a fraudulent business and eight offences of unauthorised possession of counterfeit goods. The prosecution was brought by Carmarthenshire County Council Trading Standards Service and there was also a claim for £71,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Susan Ferrier, prosecuting, said the offences came to light as a result of the Federation against Copyright Theft becoming aware of certain activities and alerting Trading Standards. In September 2011 the defendant’s home in Bury Street, Llanelli, was searched by Trading Standards Officers assisted by police and FACT officers. Dyfed-Powys Police welcome 7-year sentence for historic attempted rape | Dyfed Powys Police | Heddlu Dyfed Powys Dyfed-Powys Police have welcomed the seven year sentence for attempted rape given to Andrew James Rimmer. The 50 year old, who pleaded guilty at Swansea Crown Court, was arrested in November for the attempted rape of a 69 year-old woman. Rimmer will also be on the Sex Offender's Register for an indefinite period.

Peter Gilmore, 38, of Cribyn, near Lampeter, carried out work that was not worth paying for and charged for repairs he had not done. He admitted charges including engaging in aggressive commercial practice, fraud, benefits fraud and breaching copyright at Swansea Crown Court. Judge Keith Thomas sentenced him to 22 months in jail.
