Côr Meibion Llanelli 'Annual' a big success

Côr Meibion Llanelli’s ‘Annual Concert’ at the Selwyn Samuel Centre, Llanelli, with soprano Adele O’Neill and the Tredegar Town Band. You know you’ve witnessed something special when you’ve heard two standing ovations. The first came when Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas paid tribute to the choir’s former accompanist, Gethin Hughes, who died just short of his 76th birthday. Mr Thomas paid tribute to Gethin’s contribution to the musical life of Llanelli and Wales and invited the audience to pay tribute in the ‘way Gethin always appreciated’. Cue: a minute-long standing ovation. Predictably, the second standing ovation of the evening was reserved for the climax of the evening, a collaboration between the choir and their guests, soprano Adele O’Neill and the Tredegar Town Band. It took the shape of a stirring Climb Ev’ry Mountain from the Sound of Music and had followed a splendid duet between the soprano and Côr Meibion Llanelli’s musical director of the Andrea Bocelli...

Côr Meibion Llanelli ready for 'Annual' concert

Côr Meibion Llanelli have a triple-whammy of crowd-pleasers lined up for their much-anticipated ‘Annual Concert’ on Saturday night. The choir will be accompanied by their very own ‘Adele’ at the Selwyn Samuel Centre on Saturday, July 16. They will also have support from one of the UK’s leading brass bands, the multi-award-winning Tredegar Town Band. And the choir will feature a repertoire as varied as any they have ever performed, ranging from songs from the shows and movie favourites to negro spirituals. “It’s a wonderful programme which is sure to entertain,” said Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas. “The concert programme is ideally suited to a summer’s evening in July - and whatever the weather outside you can be assured you will be basking in the glow of a musical treat inside the Selwyn Samuel Centre. “The choir programme will feature familiar songs from West Side Story, Les Miserables and The Sound of Music. “But that only tells part of the story. The countdown is on to the Cor Meibion Llanelli 'Annual Concert'. The concert takes place on Saturday, July 16, at the Selwyn Samuel Centre, Llanelli. Supporting the choir will be the Tredegar Town Band, British brass band champions, and soprano Adele O'Neill. The compere will be Glan Davies. Cor Meibion Llanelli will be under the baton of their musical director Eifion Thomas and accompanied by Sarah Thomas. Tickets are £10, children half price.
