Pupils at four Llanelli schools have had the opportunity to learn how to become better eco-ambassadors for their school and their community. The Eco-Committees of Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant , Ysgol Penygaer , Ysgol Stebonheath and Ysgol Y Felin all came together to swap skills and ideas. Through the benefit of the skills and knowledge on local eco-volunteering opportunities, the children now have a better understanding of the impact of becoming more eco-friendly and improving the environment. The emphasis was to promote their futures which hope to be free of poverty by motivating the children to aspire and change the society we live in. From the event the schools will now support the communities to continue successful work which will include community litter-picks and various eco-friendly projects. A special eco friendly roadshow kicks off in Llanelli on Thursday (June 27). Carmarthenshire County Council has teamed up with Europe Direct, based at the West Wales European Centre - to celebrate and raise awareness of the wide range of green initiatives in the county working to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage a more sustainable way of living. The Sustainable Living Roadshow is also an opportunity to spotlight key issues such as pollution, waste, endangered species, natural resources scarcity and climate change. The show will take place at St Elli Shopping Centre between 11am and 2pm on Thursday. As part of the event, council recycling officers will be giving advice and information on recycling as well as helping residents to reduce their waste, particularly food waste. The South Wales company behind a revolutionary new cooking appliance is celebrating success in the Government’s new ‘Greenius’ (Green Genius) awards. Clyne Energy Ltd is the firm behind the LoCooker – a new concept in cooking. The new Secretary of State for Wales David Jones announced yesterday that “the economy really takes priority over everything else”. Friends of the Earth Cymru has cautioned that Mr Jones needs to focus his support on the green economy. Gareth Clubb, Director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said: “The economy can only function on a planet that is able to sustain us. David Jones needs to recognise that when the planet is facing some of its biggest challenges in history, the focus must be on a genuinely sustainable economy. “That means massive investment in renewable energy and saying no to expensive, dangerous and unnecessary nuclear. Hywel Dda Health Board | Hywel Dda Awarded Silver for Going Green Hywel Dda Health Board’s commitment to sustainable travel planning has been recognised with a Silver Award at the South West Wales Intergrated Transport Consortium (SWWITCH) Welsh Travel Plan Awards 2012. The SWWITCH Welsh Travel Plan Awards recognise excellence in Travel Planning across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.  Awards are given to individual or groups of businesses, organisations, schools or community groups.

Carmarthenshire leisure centres are going green to help the planet. Special roadshows are being staged across the county to mark Wales Sustainability Week. Eco interactive games and an innovative eco driving simulator will be available as part of a week-long programme of activities. Organisers say the initiative has been planned to showcase what customers can do to reduce their carbon footprint. Advice will be given to educate people about ways of reducing energy and helping the environment. The Welsh Assembly Government initiative, which runs from May 21-27 is supported by Carmarthenshire County Council, which is spearheading a sustainability drive in the area. Carmarthen, Llanelli, Amman Valley, St Clears and Newcastle Emlyn Leisure Centres are taking part, along with Llandovery Pool and Carmarthen Bowls Centre.
