Spencer Feeney, editor of the Swansea-based South Wales Evening Post for the past decade, will become the ninth senior Northcliffe editor to leave the business in the past year. He has spent 30 years with the publishing group and before moving to Swansea, he was editor of The Citizen, Gloucester, for seven years, and before that the weekly Llanelli Star. Spencer is also currently editor in chief of South West Wales Media, with overall editorial responsibility for the Star and the Carmarthen Journal as well as the Post. He will leave on 28 September. Exit for Carmarthen Journal editor Cathryn Ings - Press Gazette Carmarthen Journal editor Cathryn Ings will leave the company next month, publisher Northcliffe Media announced. Ings, who has edited the paid-for weekly for the last four years, began her career as a trainee reporter with the Llanelli Star in 1989 followed by spells at The Western Mail in Cardiff and the Evening Post in Swansea. In 2010 she oversaw the Journal’s 200th birthday celebrations and launched the Carmarthen Journal Bicentenary Community Awards aimed at celebrating unsung local heroes. The interim mangament statement issued by DMGT revealed that total revenues at Northcliffe for the last quarter of 2009 were down 15pc on the previous year. However with costs falling by 18pc, it meant that the group turned in a higher operating profit than in the final three months of 2008. "The continuing transformation of Northcliffe's cost base resulted in UK publishing costs being 18pc lower than last year. As a consequence, profits were up on the previous year," said the statement.
