The booklets will inform residents about the Welsh Assembly election and Police and Crime Commissioner election, both of which take place on Thursday, May 5, 2016. A series of special roadshows are being held across Carmarthenshire to help residents find out how they can vote in this year’s upcoming elections. Residents are encouraged to visit the informative events which are being held outside Carmarthen market on Wednesday, April 6, Llanelli town centre on Thursday, April 7 and Ammanford town centre on Friday, April 8 from 11am-2pm. The aim of the events is to promote and increase the number of votes at the upcoming Welsh Assembly Election and Police and Crime Commissioner Election, both of which take place on Thursday, May 5. To be able to take part in these elections, you must be registered to vote by Monday, April 18 at the latest. During the road shows, you will also be able to find out the various voting options available that suit your needs best, ensuring you don’t lose your vote. With just a few short months left before two elections people in Carmarthenshire are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote. On May 5, electors will have the chance to vote for their constituency Welsh Assembly Member and Regional Members who will represent them at the Welsh Government. There will also be an election to choose the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Dyfed Powys area. Welsh Assembly Members will remain in government for five years, and the PCC for four years. Was the result of the 2011 National Assembly election a vote in favour of the Labour party, or one against the UK government? This question will be answered in two Breakfast Seminars held this week - in Cardiff on Tuesday morning 11th October, and in Aberystwyth on Wednesday morning 12th October. In these seminars, Professor Roger Scully from Aberystwyth University’s Institute of Welsh Politics (IWP) and Professor Richard Wyn Jones of Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre (WGC) will give the first public presentations of data collected by the 2011 Welsh Election Study (WES). The seminars will be held in Cardiff at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay, and in Aberystwyth at the Welsh Government Buildings, Rhodfa Padarn, and are organised by the IWP and the WGC. Postal voters in Carmarthenshire are being reminded to follow the instructions carefully to make their vote count. There are now more than 27,000 postal voting packs being sent out to people across the county. When voting by post, people need to fill in a form that accompanies their ballot paper, giving their signature and date of birth. As a security measure, these are matched against the signature and date of birth the voter provided when they applied to vote by post. Mark James, Returning Officer for Carmarthenshire said: “Postal voting is growing in popularity as a convenient way to have your say. Aberystwyth University has compiled a directory of academics who can contribute to the political debate in Wales in the run up to the forthcoming Welsh Assembly Elections on the 5th of May 2011. The Institute of Welsh Politics (IWP), situated in the Department of International Politics, has a long tradition of engaging with the Welsh political landscape and has, over the years, conducted several major studies of the National Assembly Elections. Also included in this directory are experts in the devolved areas of business and economy, children and young people, culture and sports, education and skills, social justice, sustainable development and the Welsh language.
