Carmarthenshire County Council’s Llanelli customer service centre and cash desk will be temporarily relocated while essential maintenance work at Ty Elwyn gets underway. From Thursday, June 4, the customer service centre will relocate to The Hub , in the town centre, and the cash desk will be located at 4 Coleshill Terrace, next to the Registrars’ Office. The temporary arrangements will be in place for around three months. Many council services can be accessed online 24 hours a day at www.carmarthenshire.gov.wales , where people can get information, report problems, pay bills and request services. Customer service advisors can also be reached during office hours on 01267 234567. A solid oak bench, designed and crafted by Carmarthenshire schoolchildren and carpentry apprentices, has gone on display in Llanelli. The bench will be available for the public to view at Ty Elwyn until Friday (November 14). Pupils from Ysgol Gorslas , Ysgol Saron , and Swiss Valley Primary School all played their part in designing the bench, which was then hand-crafted from Welsh oak by carpentry apprentices employed by Cyfle Building Skills , supported by Coleg Sir Gâr carpentry tutor Paul Norrington. Llanelli-based architects the Lewis Partnership Ltd are playing a key role in the refurbishment of one of Llanelli’s landmark buildings. Ty Elwyn – the local government building named after one of Llanelli’s favourite sons, Lord Elwyn Jones – is getting an internal makeover. “As a leading firm of South Wales architects based just around the corner from Ty Elwyn, we are delighted to be working with Carmarthenshire Council on this project,” said Lewis Partnership Ltd managing director Phil Lewis, pictured above. “Some careful planning and logistical expertise has been needed to make sure that the refurbishment can go ahead with minimal disruption to the important work that goes on in Ty Elwyn, which is obviously one of Carmarthenshire Council’s key administration sites. “The refurbishment works will take in all five floors of the building and the project is valued at more than £1 million. “The building dates back to the early 1980s and the refurbishment will give it a new lease of life...
