The team at Jenkins Bakery will be doing their bit to support the Nation Radio Pride of Wales awards this week. The prestigious awards dinner takes place at The Vale Resort, near Cardiff, on Thursday night. The awards recognise and reward the unsung heroes in Wales. Operations director Russell Jenkins said: “We will be doing our bit to make sure the event goes well by supplying more than 200 cup cakes for the awards dinner. “Our best wishes go to Nation Radio and all the nominees in the different award categories. Welsh Premiership rugby side Carmarthen Quins have said a big thank-you to one of their principal sponsors, Redkite Solicitors. The law firm was presented with a special signed Quins shirt, autographed by the first team. The shirt was handed over to David Williams, Solicitor and Partner at Redkite, and Catrina Thomas, legal advisor in the Redkite Commercial and Agricultural Property Team. Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career. "Everyone in the area is hugely proud of her achievements in athletics to date," said Phil. "But we also want to see her go on and do bigger and better things. The Gwendraeth Valley Raiders Rugby League side is appealing for sponsors. They are the first semi-professional rugby league side in West Wales. The team started up last year as Gwendraeth Valley Raiders. Spokesman Peter Tiffin said: "Our first year saw us play games in the Welsh Conference (South). "Our final stats were Played 10, Won 5 and Lost 5. "We also played our final game in the Cardiff Arms Park beating the Valley Cougars 50-32. Burry Port delivery firm Celtic Couriers is helping to sponsor a prestigious vintage show in Carmarthen. The Orllwyn Teifi 24th Vintage Show is taking place at the United Counties Showground in Nantyci, Carmarthen, between August 24 and 27. The Jenkins Bakery has lent its support to Llanelli Squash Club. The club fielded five teams in the South Wales and West Glamorgan leagues during last season. Overall, the season was very successful, with the club benefiting from developing younger players and bringing them into the team. A club spokesman said: “We are very grateful to the Jenkins Bakery, who sponsored kit for all five teams.” The first team played in South Wales premier ‘B’ division and benefitted from the return of Andrew Neale to the club. Andrew played at No1 string and was unbeaten during the season. The emergence of Sam Weeds helped keep the team towards the top of the league however the team missed out on promotion to Premier ‘A’ by one point. The team will be looking to get promotion to the top division in the first half of next season.
