The high number of collisions involving motorbikes in both North Wales and Dyfed Powys Police areas has led the Chief Constables of both Forces to make the following joint statement: This year has seen a significant number of motorcyclists return to North, Mid and West Wales to make the most of the scenery and facilities that Wales has to offer, helped of course by the fine weather that we have all enjoyed. Unfortunately, though we are seeing a significant increase this year in the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured on our roads, with 16 fatalities across both of the policing areas of North Wales and Dyfed Powys Police and a further 72 motorcyclists seriously injured as a result of collisions. Amongst the most common reasons for the collisions are rider error and excessive speed, particularly on bends. A series of punchy and strikingly graphic safety messages to young drivers and riders by Carmarthenshire Council transport division is designed to heighten awareness of road safety issues. A monthly release of graffiti style information cards is running with each carrying a hard hitting message from using the mobile when driving to driving on bald tyres. If you are stuck behind a bus you will certainly get the message with many of the cards being displayed on rear-of-bus advertising. Distributed to schools and colleges the series of cards will run for more than a year as more of the messages are developed. 21 motorcyclists given fixed penalty notices by roads policing officers in North Carmarthenshire and Powys for speeding on the weekend | Dyfed Powys Police | Heddlu Dyfed Powys Police officers carried out a special operation on Sunday targeting anti-social riders and drivers using roads in North Carmarthenshire and Powys. A total of 21 motorcyclists were given fixed penalty notices for speeding, and five were reported for summons for speeding. This means the offences are too serious to warrant a fixed penalty and need to be dealt with in a court.
