'Big Cheese' visits new Carmarthen cheese shop!

Carmarthen West MP, Simon Hart, visited the new Carmarthenshire Cheese Company’s creamery, shop and visitor centre to tour the premises and try the range of cheeses in the newly opened specialist cheese shop. This was his first formal visit to the company since the opening of the site at Llanllwch close to the showground in Carmarthen in late 2015. During his visit, Mr Hart commented on how impressed he was by the excellence of the locally made cheeses on offer and the way in which the company had designed and organised the new creamery. He said “I was so pleased to be able to see the fantastic new factory up and running as a result of so much hard work. Carmarthenshire dairy producers have been congratulated by the county council for their successes at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards. The Carmarthenshire winners are: The Waitrose Trophy Awarded to the Best Cheese in the Specialist Cheesemakers Section - Carmarthenshire Cheese Company Boksburg Blue – selected from the Winners of 16 Speciality Cheese Classes. Carmarthenshire flies flag at international cheese awards

Dairy producers in Carmarthenshire are to be congratulated for their success at the International Cheese Awards in Nantwich. The Awards, which have run since 1897, and are a part of the largest cheese show in the world, are held once a year at Dorfold Park, near Nantwich. An estimated 33,000 visitors were able to taste and buy the very finest cheeses from all four corners of the world. The Carmarthenshire Cheese Company won Gold for Single Cheese - Any variety that contains Savoury Additives, Hard Cheese other than Cheddar, Cheese produced in UK only. Sanclêr Organic won Gold and Bronze for Single Soft or Cream Cheese with Additives - other than Blue Veined Cheese. Business Development Officer Carmarthenshire County Council Barry Davies said: “This is a fantastic achievement for these Carmarthenshire producers at what is an international event.
