Llanelli Library will host the second of the RNIB’s one-to-one IT sessions on Thursday July 7. The RNIB project Online Today is a new project to support people with sensory loss to gain and develop skills that allow them to use technology and the internet with confidence. During the 45 minute information sessions a member of the team from the RNIB will be on hand to offer advice and guidance and there will also be a chance to try some new technology and investigate how it may be able to help you or someone you know with sensory loss. From iIPads to smartphones, laptops to Kindles there will be something for everyone. Booking is essential and to book your place call in to the library or contact Llanelli Library on 01554 744327. Also don’t forget to call in to the library for a Costa coffee!

Carmarthenshire Libraries will be holding drop in sessions to help people with sight loss go online. From June to December the RNIB will deliver the sessions in order to support people with sensory loss.  The project ‘Online Today’, offers advice and guidance on technology, and helping people to develop skills and confidence in using technology. To make the best use of these drop in sessions and to support the RNIB’s campaign of MANIL (Making Noise in Libraries) 2016, Carmarthenshire Libraries will be demonstrating the numerous free audio visual services provided. RNIB Cymru (Royal National Institute of Blind People) is calling on people in Wales to give up a few hours of their time to help blind and partially sighted people get online. According to the findings of new research about volunteering by RNIB, 80 per cent of people who volunteer say it makes them feel happier. Another 47 per cent of respondents in the UK who do not volunteer said they want to in the future, with more than one in 10 people most keen to share their technology skills. The research was commissioned to mark the start of RNIB’s initiative to recruit more volunteers for its Online Today project to help 6000 people with sensory loss across Wales get online. Since its launch in 2015, Online Today events throughout Wales and the UK have helped thousands of people with sight and hearing loss get online. Now RNIB is appealing to local people to commit a few hours a month to visit blind and partially sighted people in their own homes and help them develop digital skills like bro...
