The actor Michael Sheen OBE and The One Show host Alex Jones were presented as Fellows of Aberystwyth University at the first of this year’s Graduation Ceremonies on Tuesday 10 July. Professor Emeritus Elan Closs Stephens CBE, BBC Trustee for Wales and former Chair of S4C presented both and pre-recorded messages of acceptance and good wishes were played to members of the audience as neither was able to attend in person. Hollywood A list actor Michael Sheen has fulfilled a long-standing promise to Healing The Wounds, the Welsh charity which helps treat PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). The actor pledged to get first-hand experience of the charity’s work when he agreed to become a patron of Healing The Wounds. Today, he attended one of the charity’s treatment courses held at the Parc y Scarlets rugby stadium in Llanelli. Healing the Wounds founder and executive director Kevin Richards said: “We have been very fortunate to have Michael as a patron of the charity and feel privileged that a Welsh actor, whose roots are in Port Talbot, has taken such a genuine interest in the charity and the plight of our veterans suffering post traumatic stress disorder. “Michael has requested that he be kept up to date on the charity’s progress toward its quest to acquire a short-term residential treatment facility in Wales to enable the continued support of our veterans and their families.” Mr Richards added: “...

The title of Fellow is awarded to honour distinguished people who have a close association with Aberystwyth University or who have made an outstanding contribution to professional or public life in Wales. Acclaimed Hollywood star Michael Sheen has carried out his first ‘official duty’ as a patron of the Healing The Wounds charity which helps treat sufferers of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Michael wowed members of the ladies coffee morning section of the Naval Club at Sandfields, Port Talbot, as he helped present a cheque to Healing The Wounds Charity. The £1,500 cheque was presented to Kevin Richards, founder and Executive Director of the charity. Mr Richards said: “We were delighted when Michael Sheen agreed to become a patron of the charity. “Michael is very interested in the work of the charity and we are sure that he will help us put the charity firmly on the map in Wales.” Sheen recently completed an epic open-air production of The Passion in his hometown of Port Talbot. The actor has agreed to become a patron of the charity. “It’s a wonderful gesture,” said Healing The Wounds charity secretary Carol Richards. “We met Michael the other day and he was very interested in the work of the charity. “He was delighted to accept our invitation to become one of our patrons and we are sure that he will help us put the charity firmly on the map in Wales.” Sheen is currently working on a production of the Passion Play in his hometown of Port Talbot over Easter.
