Diamonds are forever, even artificial ones

Aberystwyth University researchers to present their findings at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. Academics from the Aberystwyth University’s Physics Department will today travel to London to present innovative research on synthetic diamonds and how they can be used in a variety of ways to support our daily activities. University scientists from across the UK have been researching the extreme properties of man-made diamond in exciting new technologies and developing diamond based solutions for engineering, electronics, sensing and biomedical industries. They will present their research at the Royal Society’s annual Summer Science Exhibition which opens to the public today (5 July 2016). Aberystwyth academics to star at Hay Festival

Some of Aberystwyth University’s world-leading research will be showcased at one of the world's biggest literary festivals which gets underway later this week. Six internationally recognised Aberystwyth academics and two Honorary Fellows will be speaking at this year’s Hay Festival which runs from 23 May to 2 June. Last year’s festival attracted more than 225,000 visitors. Thursday 23 May at Landmarc 100 Stage at 7pm Professor Richard Marggraf Turley, Dr Jayne Elisabeth Archer and Professor Howard Thomas , all from Aberystwyth University, will deliver the 2013 INSPIRE Lecture on Literature and Sustainability as winners of a competition set up by the Institute for Sustainable Practice Innovation and Resource Effectiveness at University of Wales Trinity Saint David , supported by ASLE-UKI. New appointments at Aberystwyth University

The appointment of three new Heads of Departments and a new Deputy Dean of Science has been approved by the Council of Aberystwyth University. Professor Andrew Evans has been appointed Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Physics. Dr Martyn J. Powell has been appointed Head of the Department of History and Welsh History and Dr Joanne Thatcher has been appointed Head of the Department of Sport and Exercise Science. Dr Martin Wilding, a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Mathematics and Physics, has been appointed Deputy Dean of Science. All appointments, with the exception of Dr Martyn Powell, who takes up his new post in September 2012, are with immediate effect. Professor Andrew Evans, BSc, PhD (Wales), CPhys, MInstP.
