Age Cymru Sir Gâr, the older persons charity serving the over 50s of Carmarthenshire will be launching two of their latest developments on Friday, January 30: the Help to be heard advocacy project funded by the Big Lottery Fund. and their new offices in Trostre  The Advocacy project is to help older residents in Carmarthenshire to secure their rights, understand situations they are, in as well as ensure that their voices are heard and respected. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to promote advocacy for older people and explain how the already popular service can benefit more people across the whole of Carmarthenshire. Burry Port’s Legion Whites earned a much-needed 5-2 win at Llandybie RFC in the Llanelli and District Snooker League First Division, courtesy of Adrian Hopkins, Richard Evans (37 break), J Ellis and Nigel Summerfield. On Q Promotions Chairman Paul Mount announced today that Terry Griffiths, the 1979 World Snooker Champion, widely recognised as the World's Leading Coach, has joined On Q Promotions as the new Director of Coaching. Mr Mount said "I am absolutely delighted that Terry has agreed to join On Q Promotions and the South West Snooker Academy. Our aspirations for the sport dovetail perfectly and I am totally confident that with Terry on board we will continue to introduce more players into snooker and nurture the young talent with Terry's guidance at our purpose-built facilities at the South West Snooker Academy." Portable snooker tables are helping schools to take a pot at the sport. After a successful introduction to snooker last year, partnerships between Terry Griffiths Snooker Hall and Carmarthenshire’s 5x60 scheme have continued to strengthen. Now collapsible touring tables have been pocketed following a successful Sportslot Community Chest grant application allocated by Carmarthenshire County Council on behalf of Sport Wales. They will be distributed amongst local secondary schools, where, with the support of the school’s 5x60 officer, a clubs will be established. Pupils will be encouraged to play as often as possible during these extra curricular clubs, and then to attend the snooker hall to continue to play the sport regularly. The Terry Griffiths Matchroom in Llanelli will be holding the annual Lads and Dads snooker tournament on Sunday, December 19. The entry fee is £4 per pair. You must be paid-up Matchroom members to enter. The loser pays for the table, There is a Plate tournament (with prizes) for first round losers. Lads or dads can be joined by mothers and daughters, uncles and nephews, grandfathers and grandmothers. The rule is you must be related and from different generations! The closing date for entries is Thursday, December 16.
