Morfa Youth Forum and Carmarthenshire Youth Service have received support from Communities First and The Prince’s Trust to set up a motor biking scrambling project. The project will educate young people on motorcycle maintenance and encourage safe, responsible off-road riding skills. Pupils from Strade and Coedcae schools are currently using the motorbike project at Pembrey Race Circuit as part of their Youth Achievement Awards and OCNs. Young people meet with Youth Service officer at Pembrey Race Circuit to practice safe riding. Carmarthenshire Youth Service is delighted with the support given by Pembrey Race Circuit and Circuit Director, Phil Davies, hopes to create a motor cross track of international standard to meet the need for an off road facility in South Wales. Carmarthenshire County Council has congratulated a Llanelli community on its successful bid for lottery funding. Morfa Residents and Tenants Association took part in a televised bid to win £50,000 of Big Lottery cash to create a Spray and Play project at the community’s Havelock Park. Having gone head-to-head with a north Wales project, Morfa won the phone vote to secure the funding which will now be matched to the tune of £48,202 by Carmarthenshire County Council, secured mainly through the Communities Collaboration Fund - a partnership approach to funding between Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN), CWM Environmental, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the authority. The project aims to regenerate Havelock Park with a bright, colourful water play area that would be open to all people, of all ages. Carmarthenshire County Council is urging people to throw their weight behind a Llanelli community as it competes to win funding for a new splash play area. Morfa Residents and Tenants Association have been whittled down to the final eight of the ITV Peoples Millions, a Big Lottery competition which takes place annually. They need people to vote for their project to support their bid to win £50,000 for the scheme. If successful, the lottery funding would mean the ‘Morfa Spray and Play’ project could go ahead.
