Carmarthenshire Council has created a bird’s eye view of the proposed multi-million-pound Tywi Valley Path. The video – showing the route of the 16-mile shared use path between Carmarthen and Llandeilo – was created using 3D modelling software and Google Earth technology. It was showcased at a consultation event for local businesses and members of the public at the Ivy Bush Hotel in Carmarthen. The path will follow an almost adjacent route to that of the River Tywi, linking in with major tourist attractions through the stunning Tywi Valley countryside. A number of local businesses attended the event including accommodation providers, food and drink provides and tourist attractions to find out how they could contribute to the project and benefit from the anticipated 15,000 visitors a year. They were told the project was expected to generate between £860,000 and £2million a year in the local economy and create and support up to 41 full-time jobs. Work has started on a section of the multi-million-pound and picturesque Tywi Valley Path. The first phase of works have taken place between Fronun and Bwlch Bach, near the concrete works in Abergwili, and will form part of the planned 16-mile route linking Carmarthen and Llandeilo through the scenic Tywi Valley countryside. The works included drainage and widening of the existing carriageway for approximately 1km, with some road markings and signage still to be carried out, and were paid for thanks to a Local Transport Fund grant from Welsh Government. The remainder of the path will be all off the highway and will follow an almost adjacent route to that of the River Tywi, linking in with major tourist attractions and generating between £860,000 and £2million in the local economy every year. The new £30million Ysgol Bro Dinefwr at Ffairfach has been officially opened. A ceremony was held shortly after the start of the new term, with special guests invited to witness the unveiling of a plaque and the presentation of a ceremonial key and ‘Secure by Design’ certificate by contractors Bouygues UK. Bro Dinefwr caters for 1,200 pupils, including a 200-pupil sixth form and 30-place specialist provision for children with additional learning needs. It provides first class accommodation and facilities, plus high quality vocational courses with other Dinefwr schools and Coleg Sir Gâr. The category 2B bilingual school was delivered by the Council through its Modernising Education Programme, in partnership with the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools programme. It is part of an overall investment of around £70million in schools in the Dinefwr area.
