Off to Cardiff for the big Grand Slam match - Wales v France.

The Llanelli-based business has produced patriotic Wales rugby biscuits to mark the event. “With the crunch game against France approaching, we wanted to do our bit to generate hwyl and passion and support for our rugby team,” said Jenkins Bakery’s Operations Director Russell Jenkins. “The biscuits are made using top quality ingredients – a bit like the way Warren Gatland has mixed together a first class Welsh rugby side! “The biscuits are topped off with red sugar paste icing in the hope that red will be the colour of the winning team as we claim the Grand Slam. “Already, the biscuits are a great hit with fans. “They are a nice way of showing support for Wales in the workplace. Taxi marshals will be helping rugby revellers in Llanelli to get home safely during this year’s Six Nations championship. The marshals will be based at Island Place between 11pm and 4am on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, March 19. The championship starts on Friday night with Wales V England at 7.45pm and finishes on March 19 with an afternoon of rugby starting with Scotland V Italy at 2.30pm, followed by Ireland V England at 5pm and finally France V Wales at 7.45pm. It is hoped the marshals, funded by the Community Safety Partnership, will help to cut anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime in the town centre as well as protect the public and reduce the fear of crime. In addition, there will be proactive, high-visibility policing and visits to licensed premises. I can remember that a couple of days after the kick my then sports editor suggested I get hold of Thorburn and get him to re-create the monster kick. It was a wet Wednesday, I think, when photographer John Corbett and I trudged off to the Swansea University playing fields to meet Thorburn. I measured the distance of the kick out on the pitch and Thorburn, being a good sport, tried for the posts. After about a dozen attempts, he had to give up; it was raining and there was a swirling wind coming in from Mumbles. Corbett used a bit of technical wizardry and managed to conjure up a sequence of photos which made it look as if the ball sailed through the posts at Ashleigh Road.
