Youngsters are expected to make a huge splash to celebrate the reopening of Llanelli’s swimming pool . A fun packed, free activity programme has been planned for Saturday following the opening of the leisure centre facility earlier this week. Children are being invited to take part in a host of aquatic activities including free swims, Rookie, Aqua Aerobics, Water Polo, Snorkelling, Diving, and general fun sessions. Basketball, Junior Zumba, Circuits, Multi Skills, Trampoline, Futsal and Raquet sessions will also be delivered throughout the day in the sports hall. For the younger age group there will be a Netball and Hockey tots as well as family sport sessions which will start around 4.30pm. During the afternoon adults can get active by trying their hand at Spinning and Kettlebells sessions. Activities will start at 11am until 6pm, with free swimming for all on Sunday. Carmarthenshire County Council has invested £212,000 in the last two years to renovate Parc Howard’s Grade II listed mansion house. At the end of 2010 a full programme of works were undertaken including disability access improvements. £129,000 was spent installing ramps to the café area, first floor raised levels and the platform lift at the main entrance. Internal doors were mechanised and new fire exits were also created to improve safety at the building. A further £83,000 was invested in Spring 2011 to install new lead on the mansion’s roof, and all windows were renovated and redecorated with a 10-year paint system and extra security locks. Work also included the rebuilding of the portico to the main entrance, as well as external and internal redecoration. The works were carried out by TAD Builders Ltd on the council’s behalf. Award-winning South Wales architects the Lewis Partnership Ltd are playing a key role in the restoration of one of Llanelli’s most historic landmarks. Llanelli Town Hall is being refurbished and upgraded by Carmarthenshire Council. “As one of Llanelli’s favourite buildings, it is in need of some TLC, some tender, loving care,” said the Lewis Partnership Ltd’s managing director Philip Lewis. “As an older building, care must be taken to ensure it is properly maintained and our plan will tackle the usual routine problems which come with older buildings and prepare the Town Hall for a bright future. “The Town Hall is very much a cherished building in Llanelli and, as a town-based firm of architects, operating from headquarters just around the corner from the building, we are delighted to be helping with this work.” The Town Hall came into being after the old Local Board of Health first suggested the idea back in 1892. One of Carmarthenshire’s leading tourist attractions is being improved thanks to South Wales architects the Lewis Partnership Ltd.
