Carmarthenshire County Council social workers joined volunteers from Ty Golau on their fourth annual fundraising walk at Llanelli's Millennium Coastal Park. Ty Golau founder Janet Lewis praised all those who took part for helping to raise much needed support. Ty Golau runs weekly health and wellbeing sessions for people aged 50+ in homes across Llanelli, Pembrey, Burry Port and Kidwelly. The weekly programme includes memory jogging quizzes and music, resulting in many service users singing for the first time in years. Mrs Lewis said: “We aim, in the not too distant future, to set up another workshop in Llanelli as demand is steadily growing. The service is becoming more recognised and talked about.” The council's executive board member for social care and health, Cllr Jane Tremlett, said: “Janet and her team perform sterling work in Llanelli. It would be wonderful to see them expand their service further across the county.”

Burry Port social entrepreneur Kevin Green was among a team of sporting, business and showbiz personalities who lent their support to the 'Cerdded Ymlaen' (Walk On) charity trek for the Wales Air Ambulance. Green completed the first 22-mile leg of the trek from Swansea to Llanelli with the 'Cerdded' team. The first leg was sponsored by TV, film and multi-platform production company Tanabi. Euros Jones-Evans represented Tanabi on the walk. Green said afterwards: "It was a glorious, scorching hot day and the walk took us from Swansea city centre to Mumbles and then over to Llanelli. I have the blisters to prove it, but it was well worth it as the team were raising money for the Wales Air Ambulance, which is a great cause." A Merthyr couple have marked their first wedding anniversary by taking on a trek in aid of Healing The Wounds. Denese and Gary Jones were joined by four friends for the 40-mile walk which took around 15 hours to complete. The pair, who married on May 18 last year, said they wanted to give something back to the community and helping Welsh Armed Forces charity Healing The Wounds was the ideal way to do it. “Everyone asked what we wanted to do for our anniversary and this was it,” said Denese. “We wanted to give back to the boys and girls who do so much for everybody else. “Six of us walked 40 miles and two of the team did 20 miles and had ankle problems so had to go back. The rest of us managed to finish. It took us 15 hours and our feet are painful but it’s well worth it to think we can do a small bit to help. “People think we are a bit mad, but we enjoyed every stage of doing the walk.
