Construction industry businesses discover new opportunities in West Wales

Hundreds of businesses in the construction industry attended an event at Llanelli’s Parc Y Scarlets to find out about the major opportunities available to them. More than 300 delegates from across the region went along to find out more about various forthcoming projects that they could be a part of. More than £132 million worth of projects have been awarded amongst the 23 contractors on the Framework since February 2016, with a further £188 million worth of projects in the pipeline. The Contractors Framework is used for the delivery of construction and associated services across the Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot council areas. Carmarthenshire County Council leads the Framework on behalf of the partner authorities. Businesses in the construction industry will get a chance to hear about the major opportunities open to them as part of the South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework. A contractor engagement event is being held at Llanelli’s Parc Y Scarlets on February 9, giving local businesses the opportunity to find out about forthcoming projects that they could be a part of. The Framework is used for the delivery of construction, design and project management services across the Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot council areas. More that £103million worth of projects have been awarded amongst the 23 contractors on the Framework since February, with a further £177million worth of projects in the pipeline. Seren initiative helps sixth form stars shine

Some of West Wales’ brightest students are being helped to shine through the Seren initiative. Seren is a network of regional hubs designed to support Wales’ brightest sixth formers achieve their academic potential and gain access to leading universities. The launch of this year’s Seren Hub for Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire year 12 pupils is taking place later this week at Parc y Scarlets. Around 300 students from schools in the two counties, and from Coleg Sir Gar and Pembrokeshire College, will attend the event. Keynote speakers, workshops, information about Seren Hub developments and an opportunity to ask questions are all on the agenda. Around a dozen universities from England and Wales will also be in attendance. Seren was launched two years ago by the Welsh Government to tackle the decline in Welsh applications and admissions to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
