Hywel Dda University Health Board has thanked staff following the introduction of new Midiwfe Led Units at Glangwili and Withybush Hospitals and the move of special care baby and obstetric services from Withybush Hospital to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. From Monday 4 August, special care baby services are provided from a modern, purpose built unit at Glangwili Hospital. Also, women from Pembrokeshire requiring additional care during pregnancy, labour or birth will be advised to give birth in the Consultant Led Unit at Glangwili Hospital. Bernardine Rees, Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “I am aware of the personal contribution each member of midwifery, nursing and medical staff have made to the women and children of Pembrokeshire over the years. News from the Hywel Dda University Health Board - Withybush Midwife Led Unit welcomes first baby We are delighted to announce that Withybush’s Midwife Led Unit has welcomed its first baby. Baby Tia was born on Wednesday 6 August to proud parents Lorie and Michael from Pembroke. All are doing well. Midwife Led Units are designed for women who want to deliver in a homely and relaxed atmosphere whilst being cared for by midwives who are experts in normal births. Chief Executive (Interim) of Hywel Dda University Health Board Karen Howell was on hand to congratulate mum Lorie on the birth of her second child: “On behalf of Hywel Dda University Health Board I’d like to extend our congratulations to the Waters family. Baby Natasha May Griffiths with her mum Emily Smith and grandmother Lisa Griffiths who delivered the baby at the family’s home in Felinfoel on Tuesday morning But within a few hours, 17-year-old Emily Smith was giving birth in the Felinfoel living room, with Lisa on hand to help.
