Sunday 17:50 - New Dock Road, Llanelli: Crews from Llanelli attended a fire confined to a grill pan in a ground floor kitchen. Fire was out on arrival however property was smoke-logged. Fire Service ventilated property, evacuated an elderly female from the property and treated her for smoke inhalation with oxygen therapy.

An activity-packed day has been organised at the newly developed Pen y Morfa site in New Dock, Llanelli. Glanymor and Tyisha Environment and Regeneration Action Group (ERAG) in collaboration with Glanymor and Tyisha Communities First held an event for local residents at the newly developed Pen y Morfa Park in Llanelli. As it has now been a year since the site was developed from a wasteland into a family recreational area, the event was designed for residents of the area to gain tips and advice on how to sustain greener living and how to maintain and upkeep the park for future use. Nearly 200 people attended the event at Pen y Morfa Park. There were speeches from Llanelli Town Mayor Linda Steadman, Deputy Mayor Hubert Hitchman, Charles Watson, chairperson of the Environment and Regeneration Action Group; Amy Wakefield, Senior Co-ordinator from Communities First Glanymor and Tyisha; and Faye Davies, Link officer from Communities First Glanymor and Tyisha. A Llanelli eyesore which has been transformed into a community garden and play area has been unveiled in a wave of celebrations. The Penymorfa garden has been totally transformed on wasteland behind Dolau Fawr in New Dock. Residents have joined forces with Communities First Glanymor and Tyisha to clean up the land which had been blighted by vandalism and flytipping. Scores of people attended the official opening at the weekend, and enjoyed a BBQ, sports games for children, and workshops on street art and healthy eating. Project leaders say they are delighted by the success of the project and the response from the community. Communities First officers secured £50,000 of funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Local Environmental Quality Fund, and a further £18,110 from its Tidy Towns initiative for the scheme. Children have been getting creative during the school half-term at a wood craft workshop in New Dock, Llanelli. Children were joined by woodcraft artists from Artscare who helped them join in with activities including willow structure and bench making. It was organised by the New Dock Residents and Tenants Association, which meets every second Monday of the month, 5.15pm at Emmanuel Baptist Chapel. The event was assisted by Glanymor and Tyisha Communities First, a Welsh Assembly initiative run locally by Carmarthenshire County Council. Local children join Teresa Armstrong, Secretary of New Dock Residents and Tenants Association, woodcraft artist Scott Blytt Jordens of Artscare, and Cllr John Jones.
