There's a charity cheese and wine evening at Myddfai Community Hall and Visitor Centre, near Llandovery, on Friday, from 5-8pm. The evening will see a viewing of "Works of Art for all Seasons" by local artist Shirley Ennis. Proceeds from the event will go towards the cardiac units at Glangwili and Morriston hospitals and the Myddfai Ty Talcen Charity. Margaret Rees, of the Welsh School of Artisan Food, a renowned and award winning chef and successful restaurateur, will be presenting Carmarthenshire Artisan Cheese and Wine at the evening. She will also be displaying Local Artisan Cheese Celebration Cakes or Cheese towers suitable for events such as weddings, anniversaries and Christmas. The Myddfai Ty Talcen charity has been granted permission to hold a Diamond Jubilee event at the Prince of Wales’s Carmarthenshire home. The charity applied for Temporary Event Notices to hold a fireworks event at Llwynywermod near Myddfai on June 4 with two marquees for guests. The event is pre-purchase ticket only. The application has been dealt with by Carmarthenshire County Council’s licensing section . The council has so far approved six other Temporary Event Notices for June 4 for events in Llandeilo, Llanwrda, Abergwili, Llandovery, Bynea and Cwmann, and a series of events by Five Roads Village Hall and Park on June 2, 3 and 5. Carmarthenshire has granted temporary road closures for Market Square, Llandovery; Church Street, Ammanford; Gilbert Crescent, Llanelli; Park Terrace, Burry Port; Randell Square, Pembrey; and Tunnel Road, Llanelli. A Carmarthenshire community is celebrating a £430,000 Lottery windfall for a new state-of-the-art village hall. Villagers in Myddfai have secured the huge grant to create and sell a new ‘Myddfai, made in a great tradition’ brand of products. The flagship social enterprise will draw on the 13th Century legend of the Physicians of Myddfai, who were renowned for their homeopathy skills. Local people will grow and sell herbal medicines under the new range, and skilled craft workers will use the brand to sell quilted, pottery and glass products. All the goods will be sold at a new purpose built community hall, which will replace the dilapidated 60-year-old village hall. The innovative project has received funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Village SOS scheme, which is aimed at supporting business ventures that create jobs and improve the quality of life for local people.
