Hywel Dda Health Board | Legislation to make cosmetic piercing safer for young people Under-16s in Wales will not be allowed to receive a cosmetic piercing without their parent or guardian’s consent, if proposed Welsh Government legislation goes ahead. Health Minister Lesley Griffiths said the legislation would also include an outright ban on intimate cosmetic piercings for under-18s. A recent public consultation asking for views on how to make cosmetic piercing safer for young people in Wales showed strong support for legislation.

Carmarthenshire clamp on tattoo parlours

Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board will consider bringing in byelaws to regulate tattoo parlours and similar premises. A report will go to the next meeting of the executive board with a recommendation to adopt byelaws to regulate people carrying on businesses of acupuncture, tattooing, cosmetic piercing semi permanent skin colouring and electrolysis. The byelaws are intended to improve confidence amongst customers using the services. Head of public protection Philip Davies said: “A registration scheme will be a key part of the process, requiring business operators and premises used for cosmetic piercing and skin colouring to register with the council. “They will have to comply with the byelaws, which provide public health and protection measures relating to the cleanliness and hygiene of premises, equipment, practices and practitioners.” The measures are intended to increase public health and protection and reduce the risk of transmission of blood borne viral infections s...
