To mark National BBQ Week*, the Beer Academy has announced the best barbeque beer. Summer Ale narrowly piped India Pale Ale in poll of Beer Academy alumni to choose the perfect beer for barbeques. Beer lovers were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite barbeque beer in the poll that was conducted last month. The ranking was: Summer ale 37% India Pale Ale (IPA) 35% Lager 13% Extra Special Bitter (ESB) 13% Stout 6% Beer Academy Director, Simon Jackson said “Many respondents said that it was difficult to choose just one beer for a barbeque as the perfect match depends on the food on the grill. Carmarthen’s leading theatre arts school, Stagecoach, is already planning its summer activities. Mums and dads planning summer holidays for their children will be delighted to learn that the Stagecoach team will be holding a week-long workshop, from August 6-10. “We all know it can be difficult planning activities for children during the long summer holidays,” said Stagecoach Carmarthen principal Liane Davies. “But we’re making it easy, at least for one week!” Stagecoach Theatre Arts Carmarthen will be staging two different workshops side by side at the Queen Elizabeth High School. “We are very lucky,” said Liane. “Julia Donaldson, the author of Gruffalo (a real children’s favourite) has given us permission to stage a workshop for four to six-year-olds. “The children will get a pretty intense week working on the Gruffalo, but we promise it will be fun all the way. “The week will lead up to a special performance of the Gruffalo on Friday, August 10. “For the older children, the ...

The summer concert at Aberglasney House and Gardens in the Tywi Valley (originally planned for June) has been shelved as the staff at Aberglasney concentrate on building an extended programme of regular events at the gardens. Last year’s concert featured Bryn Terfel and Wynne Evans and was televised for S4C. Aberglasney Chief Executive Roger Evans said: “With renovations to the mansion house, 2012 is going to be very busy. We are planning for more regular events spread over the year with a plan to bring the concert back in 2013.”
