Carmarthen man fined for overgrown garden
A Carmarthen resident has been prosecuted for ignoring an enforcement notice to clear up his overgrown garden. On August 22 last year Carmarthenshire County Council served a notice under Section 215 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 for Michael Henry Jones to clear the overgrown garden at the rear of his property in Priory Street, Carmarthen. The property is within a Conservation Area and the overgrown garden affects the amenity of the neighbouring properties. The time limit for compliance has been extended twice and although some works were undertaken the garden has not been fully cleared so as to comply with the requirements of the notice. A case was brought against Mr Jones in respect of a breach of Section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act. He failed to attend the hearing at Carmarthen Magistrates Court and the case was proven in his absence. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £194.78 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
