The Welsh Game Fair is returning to Pembrey Country Park on June 20 and 21. Following the resounding success of last year’s event the game fair now looks destined to settle at Pembrey for the foreseeable future. A fantastic line up for this year’s main ring attractions include world famous Jason Smythe Adrenalin Tour which comprises quad and motorcycle stunt riders, The Dingle Fingle Comedy Act and Yee Olde Redtail Falconry Display as well as many others. Hundreds of trade stands, a huge craft marquee, food hall and an array of displays, exhibitions and competitions will delight adults and children alike. Last year more than 22,000 visitors from as far afield as Scotland and Czechoslovakia flooded into the park in 5,000-plus cars over the weekend. A record attendance is forecast with enquiries for accommodation flooding in. The biggest celebration of country life in Wales is making its home at Pembrey Country Park. Carmarthenshire Council executive board member for leisure services Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “This is a great coup for the park. The Game Fair has traditionally been the county’s best family day out of the year filled with breathtaking entertainment.” The Wales Game Fair will celebrate its 27th anniversary over the weekend of June 14-15, 2014. After visiting the 500-acres of parkland in recent weeks the Game Fair organisers have been “blown away” by the venue. More than 20,000 visitors are expected including a large contingent from Ireland and Europe to what is consider to be the pinnacle of the sporting calendar in Wales. The Pembrey venue and infrastructure proved capable of hosting such a large scale event over three years from 2010 with the student musical festival Beach Break Live.   Llandeilo businessman and brewery owner Simon Buckley says traders in Llandeilo will be sorry to see the Welsh Game Fair leave its traditional home at Gelli Aur in the Tywi Valley. But he remains buoyant that the move of the game fair to the Nantyci showground site just outside Carmarthen will not damage Llandeilo's economy. Mr Buckley, chief executive of the Evan-Evans brewery, said: "The Llandeilo stretch of the Tywi Valley has a long association with the game fair event. "In the past, the game fair has been an important part of the list of annual summer events. "In more recent times, due to bad weather, and the ever-increasing entry cost, the numbers of people associated with the game fair visiting Llandeilo seems to have dropped away. Game fair coup for showground as event switches from Gelli Aur | This is South Wales Carmarthen's Nantyci showground will host the Welsh Game Fair this summer. In what has been described as a major coup for the town, it will see the event move from Llandeilo’s Gelli Aur for the first time in its history since it started in 1986.
