Melin Consultants, providers of sustainable building and construction solutions, are pleased to announce that they will be the main sponsor of this year’s Melin Sospan Sizzler Middle Distance Triathlon. Held in Burry Port on Sunday June 11, the event is organised by non-profit organisation Healthy Life Activities. This is the only middle distance triathlon to be held in Carmarthenshire and the challenging hilly bike course attracts athletes from across the UK. The Melin Sospan Sizzler Middle Distance Triathlon will start with a 1,900m early morning sea swim, encompassing two loops from Burry Port Harbour. The bike leg will then take competitors on a two-loop 90km course around the Gwendraeth Valley, taking in the legendary Meinciau climb, not once, but twice. The final stage will be a fast and flat 21km run along the stunning scenery of the coastal path. From toddlers to seasoned veterans, they all turned out for the annual Carmarthen Mayor’s Fun Run races staged in the town centre on Bank Holiday Monday. Runners of all shapes and sizes took to the streets of Carmarthen, helping to raise cash for many different charities. “It was a great, fun occasion, with the accent firmly on everyone having fun,” said Carmarthen Mayor  Councillor Barry Williams. “This is the 35th year for the races to be held in Carmarthen and each year it is a delight to see hundreds of families enjoy the experience. The fun run races go from strength to strength. “The toddlers race, where mums and dads joined their more athletic youngsters around the town centre circuit, was great fun. “There was keen competition in many of the school-age races and a decent field of nearly 250 athletes for the main 5K race over three laps of the town centre circuit.” Everyone who finished received a special medal. Runners of all ages, shapes and sizes are being encouraged to take part in the Fun Run races on May Bank Holiday Monday, May 2. The event has been held in the town over the past 34 years. "A quick look at the TV pictures of the London marathon was enough to show how much fun people can have while raising valuable cash for charity. Preparations are continuing for this year's Carmarthen Mayor's race and runners can look forward to new routes. Hundreds of runners of all ages will take to the streets on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2. The race marks its 30th year and will include a wheelchair and a hand-cycle race for the first time. Organisers have introduced new routes for both the junior and adult races. Youngsters tackling the junior course will start at on Lammas Street opposite the entrance to Merlin's Walk, turn right up Mansel Street, before turning right past the old clock tower and back through the pedestrianised Red Street to Guildhall Square — they will complete this loop twice which is 1200 metres. The five kilometre adult run will see competitors start on Blue Street, through up Lammas Street and right onto Mansel Street. They will then cross St Catherine's Street and run a loop up to the Apollo Cinema before crossing back across St Catherine's Street and down Red Street before turning ...

The 30th annual Mayor’s Fun Run in Carmarthen will chalk up a notable first this year. The programme of races on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2, will include a wheelchair and a hand-cycle race. “This is a major first for the Mayor’s Fun Run team,” said race organiser Noelwyn Daniel. “We have strived to include as many races as possible for all sections of the community. The countdown has started for the 30th annual Carmarthen Mayor’s Fun Run. And the landmark event will see one of the biggest changes in the race’s long history.
