The introduction of an occupational therapist to the team at Argyle Medical Group (Pembroke Dock) has been featured in a national report celebrating the value of innovative occupational therapy services. The report, Reducing the Pressure on Hospitals: A Report on the Value of Occupational Therapy in Wales, illustrates how shifting occupational therapy resource to the front line of care to A&E departments, primary care and in the community, can play a vital role in reducing hospital admissions in Wales. Working in partnership with Hywel Dda UHB’s Occupational Therapy Team, the introduction of an occupational therapist at the Pembroke Dock GP practice has provided this vital service as a proactive and alternative way of caring for the practice’s known frail, older patients in the community. Residents of Pembrokeshire are being urged to find out how to love their liver during the Love Your Liver campaign, this January. To spread awareness and educate people about liver health, professionals will be visiting a series of locations across the Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) area, in the coming weeks. Growing South Wales construction firm Morganstone is making speedy progress on three new contracts for Pembrokeshire Housing Association. The combined value of the projects is more than £2million. “This is a sizeable project for us in Pembrokeshire and demonstrates how we are starting to find work the length and the breadth of Wales,” said Morganstone Managing Director Ian Morgan. “We have found Pembrokeshire Housing Association great to work with and the projects are really moving on at a pace. Hywel Dda Health Board | Seasonal Flu Outbreak at South Pembs Hospital Following an outbreak of seasonal flu, affecting a small number of patients and staff, Hywel Dda Health Board has temporarily closed South Pembs Hospital in Pembroke Dock to new admissions. Strict infection control precautions are in place and visiting is restricted to essential visitors only in liaison with ward staff. Next of kin have been advised of the situation. The Health Board is asking members of the public and staff who have suffered flu like symptoms to not visit any hospital or care facility until they are at least 48 hours free of symptoms.
