Three lucky students have been given the opportunity to work alongside Carmarthenshire Council’s legal services. Candidates studying LPC (Legal Practice Course) or BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) will work alongside lawyers for one day a week for three months to gain first-hand experience of the duties they can expect to undertake at the start of their professional careers. The service already has a strong track record of developing its own staff, six of the solicitors having initially joined as junior paralegal trainees. The successful applicants are expected to start in October and will work in either the litigation, property or social care teams assisting staff in a wide range of legal cases. Aberystwyth University students are being given a chance once more this year to help out on an international sporting event. The University has partnered with the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB to offer work experience and to host one of the rally stops on their upcoming roadshow prior to the main event in October 2016. The Dayinsure Wales Rally GB is held in mid and north Wales and is the penultimate round of the World Rally Championship (WRC). Attracting around 80,000 spectators from all over the world, it is broadcast to over 60 million people worldwide and contributes more than £10m to the Welsh economy every year. The relationship between the university and Wales Rally GB (WRGB) started a few years ago as tourism students from Aberystwyth University assisted in conducting surveys at the famous ‘Sweet Lamb’ stage of the event. A series of successful events held by Carmarthenshire Communities First Team and Jobs Growth Wales are helping to raise the profile of work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for the young. The events offered a free breakfast across a variety of venues across the Llanelli and Ammanford cluster * to discuss work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for the young. They proved so popular that an extra breakfast session is planned for Monday, March 10, at Llanelli Library between 10am – 12pm. The aim is to help 16-24 year olds that are job ready but have had difficulty securing employment by offering exclusive job placements, paid at or above the national minimum wage for a minimum of 25 hours per week.
