Three Carmarthenshire residents win litter awareness competition
Three Carmarthenshire residents have won £15 iTunes vouchers in a competition to raise awareness about fast-food litter. The council has teamed up with McDonald’s to encourage people to dispose of their rubbish more responsibly. Officers went along to the restaurants in Llanelli, Carmarthen and Cross Hands to speak to customers and put up posters with a reminder that anyone caught dropping litter can be fined £75 or more if prosecuted in court. A free prize draw was also held to win iTunes vouchers. In total 167 entries were received. The winners were Betty Thomas from Seaside, Llanelli; Cris Lewis from Llandysul and Marie Smallwood from Capel Hendre. Figures show that fast food litter such as chip wrappers, crisp packets, drinks cartons and half eaten food can be found on 20% of streets in Carmarthenshire.
