Families attending an after-school club in Llwynhendy are enjoying healthy meals. The Llwynhendy Integrated Children Centre tea time club wanted to incorporate a healthy eating element to the group. Communities First provided healthy cooking alternatives at the club for the children and their parents who attend the centre straight from school. It was very successful with positive feedback and overall everyone involved stated that they had improved in their ability to produce healthy meals for the family at snack time and have repeated what they did in the sessions at home together. The sessions ran throughout November and early December with 30 people participating in the group over the five sessions. One client said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, I feel what we have prepared and cooked at the centre has helped with the snack time at home and have repeated a few of them at home with the children who also help me to cook now from what they have learned in the group.” Executive boa...

Residents on a Carmarthen estate have received a special delivery of blue recycling bags from their local after school club. Children from the after school club at Ty Hapus Family Centre delivered a roll of blue bags to every house on the Park Hall estate. They were joined by the council’s recycling advisors who have recently been knocking on doors in the area to encourage people to recycle as much of their rubbish as possible. The project led to an 11% increase in recycling /composting and it is hoped householders are keeping up the good work. Anthony Dragone from the Ty Hapus Family Centre said: “We now stock blue bags for the council so that residents can pick them up from here instead of going into town and we thought that it would be a good way to let people know. “It was a great experience for the children and we’ve had some excellent feedback from the community too.
