The Rotary Club of Lampeter is celebrating its 46th Charter Night on Friday May 27th 2016 in the Lloyd Thomas Refectory, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Lampeter, with a celebratory three course meal in aid of the President's chosen charity, Action Medical Research. The evening will include a presentation from Charlotte Bailey, an Action speaker ambassador, who is an inspirational young student from South Wales about to study medicine. There will also be a raffle with some very generous prizes. The cost will be £27.50 and a bar will also be available. There will be a temporary closure of part of the C1167 road from its junction with B4343 for a total distance of half a mile in a south-easterly direction near Cellan, Lampeter. The closure is necessary to ensure public safety whilst H T Installations lay a new duct in the carriageway from Monday, October 5. The road will be closed for five days. The alternative route for north-westbound traffic will be to travel in a north-easterly direction along the C1167 to its junction with the B4343. Turn left there and continue in a south-westerly direction along the B4343 to return to a point north-west of the closure. Vice versa for south-east bound traffic.

'Coast and Countryside' is the title for a new collection of work by Lampeter-based artist Elaine Graham. The collection goes on show at Aberglasney House and Gardens between May 10 and 23. Elaine is an emerging West Wales artist popular for her distinctive colourist and painterly landscapes. She specialises in the wild, windy and always dramatic Welsh coast countryside and fuses the traditional and modern. Her style is described as 'painterly, colourist and expressive'. The new show will be open from 10-6pm daily at Aberglasney Gardens, Llangathen, Carmarthenshire, SA32 8QH. Elaine said: “The more I explore Wales the more I feel I am tapping into a timeless and untamed energy. Latest news from Lampeter and Carmarthen fire stations - 28 May 2012: 16:47 A485 Gwyddgrug, Pencader: Crews from Lampeter and Carmarthen attended a road traffic collision involving two private motor vehicles. Fire Service released one person from vehicle using Webber rescue equipment and small gear. An environmental pack was used to absorb spillage and both vehicles were made safe by crews.

Hywel Dda Health Board | Outbreak of gastrointestinal illness, Lampeter Public Health Wales and Ceredigion County Council are investigating an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness at a school in Lampeter. Since early March, 145 children and 12 members of staff at Ysgol Gynradd Ffynnonbedr have been unwell with vomiting and/or diarrhoea. All 368 pupils and 56 staff at the school are from today being asked to submit samples for laboratory testing if they develop symptoms. The school will be closed voluntarily tomorrow (Friday 23 March) as a precaution and will also remain closed on Monday 26 March due to a scheduled Inset day.

BBC News - Lampeter builder Peter Gilmore jailed at Swansea Crown Court A "wholly incompetent" builder who targeted elderly and vulnerable people in mid and west Wales has been jailed. Peter Gilmore, 38, of Cribyn, near Lampeter, carried out work that was not worth paying for and charged for repairs he had not done. He admitted charges including engaging in aggressive commercial practice, fraud, benefits fraud and breaching copyright at Swansea Crown Court. Judge Keith Thomas sentenced him to 22 months in jail.

On May 12, 2011, Cymdeithas Aberaeron will commemorate 100 years since the opening of the Lampeter to 'Aberayron' railway line and launch a series of events and activities. In a free concert at the University of Wales, Lampeter, this November, the Nanjing University Orchestra will provide a rare opportunity to hear indigenous melodies from the Chinese province of Southern Jiangsu, as well as traditional pieces reflecting the unique character of other regions.
