An appeal is being made for photographs that show the bandstand at Llanelli’s Parc Howard in all its former glory. The bandstand is being restored as part of the park’s centenary celebrations, but help is needed to ascertain the original design of the railings so that work can be carried out sympathetically. Kidwelly-based building firm Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd, working on behalf of Carmarthenshire County Council, is appealing for people to come forward if they have photographs which clearly show the design of the balustrades, steps and gate. Firms join forces for eco boost aim | This is South Wales A Kidwelly construction company is part of an innovative new project looking to give a major boost to community projects and the environment. Dyfrig Dalziel Limited is helping to spread the gospel about sustainability across Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. To do so, it is are pooling its knowledge and resources with five other companies in the county including Pontyberem's Lloyd & Gravell, Morganstone Ltd and TAD Builders Ltd, both of Llanelli, along with Narberth's HM Building Services and Ammanford's T Richard Jones Ltd to help local communities as part of a new group called "Working Together".

School pupils from Caraway and Swiss Valley Primary Schools in Carmarthenshire got a taste for a career in construction at a Construction Awareness Day held by local company Dyfrig Dalziel in conjunction with ConstructionSkills. More than 30 pupils were involved in the day which, which was held at Dyfrig Dalziel’s site in Kidwelly and included visits from Keith Davies AM, Nia Griffith MP and Kidwelly Town Mayor Jeanette Gilasbey. Throughout the day pupils got to try their hand at a range of construction based activities from bricklaying, tiling and carpentry, through to recycling and building a miniature house. The event highlighted the different career paths available to young people in the industry and reinforced the message that construction is a viable career choice for women as well as men and that young girls should serious consider a future in the industry. The longer term outlook is slow with a sustained period of recovery. There are opportunities for the Welsh Government, through the low carbon agenda, to create jobs and additional work for local contractors. Many homes in Wales will need to be retro-fitted to meet the Government carbon targets. But private homeowners will also need to be incentivized to make their homes more energy efficient. One of Carmarthenshire County Council’s framework contractors has been helping two Llanelli schools to bloom and grow. Kidwelly-based construction firm Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd has helped Swiss Valley Primary School (above) and Carway Primary School (below) to build vegetable plots where pupils can develop their education in a hands-on environment. During the build, the company also introduced children to various aspects of health and safety by bringing along ‘Ivor Goodsite’, a character from Considerate Constructor, the body which promotes jobs in the construction industry and construction site safety. The Kidwelly-based construction firm Dyfrig Dalziel Ltd has helped plant the seeds for an innovative project which will help children at two West Wales schools. The project has helped build vegetable plots at Carway Primary School in the Gwendraeth Valley and Swiss Valley Primary School in Llanelli. A £200 million project to improve Carmarthenshire’s council homes has created a jobs bonanza in the county. An ambitious programme to upgrade the county council’s 9,200 houses has sparked a boom for the construction industry. Jobs have been created for local companies, and more than 100 apprentices have secured work placements during difficult economic times. Research shows that the Homes Standard scheme injects around £25 million a year into the industry and local economy. The 10 year programme is aimed at improving the council’s housing stock and regenerating housing estates. New kitchens and bathrooms are being installed for thousands of tenants, along with windows and doors and garden improvements. Painting and rendering works are being carried out along with cavity and wall insulation programmes.
