Children have taken over Llanelli Library to kick start this year’s Summer Reading Challenge ‘Mythical Maze’. Children joined Sir Charlie Stinky Socks on his really big adventure with interactive storytelling, sound effects and props. The children also decorated a giant castle, which will be in the Children’s Library all summer. It is hoped that the children will be inspired to return to their local library during the holidays to sign up for the Mythical Maze summer reading challenge. Carmarthenshire Libraries take part in the national summer reading challenge each year and hundreds of children sign up to win prizes as they read and return their books over the holidays. The incentives this year include a fridge magnet, zip-tag and certificate. Libraries across Carmarthenshire are welcoming children to this year’s Summer Reading Challenge being launched this weekend. The challenge is aimed at inspiring thousands of families to get involved in the UK's biggest reading event for children in libraries. Children aged between four and 12 are encouraged to read six or more books of their choice during the summer holiday and they will get collectable incentives and rewards – plus a certificate for completing the challenge. The 2012 Summer Reading Challenge is called Story Lab and features four characters: Lex, Rani, Will and Evie who, along with Aesop the ginger lab cat, will be helping Professor Cortex collect and share stories to inspire thousands of young imaginations. A creative craft session was held in line with the library service’s summer reading challenge Circus Stars. Children aged between four and 11 are encouraged to read six or more books of their choice during the summer for the reading challenge. The Circus is coming to Ammanford Library – to encourage youngsters to read during the summer holidays. Head to Ammanford library for your free Circus Stars stage set and join the Summer Reading Challenge. It’s fun, it’s free, it’s going to be the greatest show on earth! Jugglestruck, a family circus show and workshop featuring the amazing Luke Jugglestruck will be at the library from 11am-12.30pm on Wednesday July 20.
