Campaigners march to save Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital | This is South Wales Hundreds of campaigners have marched to save Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital. Led by a coffin, the march culminated in a rally at the town's Sunken Gardens which saw passionate speeches against possible changes proposed by Hywel Dda Health Board. Llanelli Traders Council, which organised the weekend demo, says it fears the hospital may not survive if services are downgraded. Among those marching was Llanelli cancer sufferer Wyn Jones, 51, of Llys Penciliogi, who criticised the proposal to switch Prince Philip's accident and emergency department to Glangwili, which he claimed could mean deaths caused by delays getting to hospital. He said: "Time alone could be life or death, especially for my children who are asthmatic. "The fact that this is even being considered is appalling — Nye Bevan would turn in his grave."

Llanelli Trades Council, which organised Saturday's protest, says it fears the hospital may not survive if services are downgraded or relocated. They said they would not stand "idly by and see lives put at risk" by proposals to close the hospital's A&E department. Hywel Dda Health Board says no decisions about changes have been made.
