Llanelli Youth Theatre's forthcoming production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible takes place at Stiwdio Stepni, Ffwrnes, Llanelli, next month. Llanelli Youth Theatre are renowned for their imaginative and highly innovative productions, being readily accessible, highly stimulating and visually entertaining for all ages allowing audiences to experience, celebrate and comment on the world in which they live. In a small, tight-knit community, personal grievances collide with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria. Miller’s timeless parable attacks the evils of mindless persecution and the terrifying power of false accusations. Both a gripping historical play and a timely parable of contemporary society, The Crucible is arguably the most important play written in the 20th Century. The Crucible runs nightly from Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th November at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 3pm.

Llanelli Youth Theatre will be performing A Clockwork Orange later this month. It runs at Stiwdio Stepni, Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd April at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 3pm. A Clockwork Orange takes place in a futuristic city governed by a repressive, totalitarian super-state. In this society, ordinary citizens have fallen into a passive stupor of complacency, blind to the insidious growth of a rampant, violent youth culture. The protagonist of the story is Alex, who leads a small gang of teenage criminals. The Anthony Burgess play, with music, is based on his own provocative 1962 novella of the same name. The book was first published in 1987. A Clockwork Orange was made into a film classic by Stanley Kubrick in 1971, and was dramatised by the RSC in 1990. Age suitability 14+. Just been doing a little research on Llanelli Youth Theatre. Amazed to find the group has been running since 1984 - that fact makes me feel old! Its best known former pupil is, of course, John Owen Jones, of Les Miserables and Phantom fame. LYT has performned at many prestigious venues, including Theatr Clwyd, Bristol Old Vic, Theatre Royal Bath and even at the National Theatre in London. And, of course, our own Theatr Elli, Llanell. Llanelli Youth Theatre brings Larson’s Tony Award-winning Rent to Theatr Elli, from September 8-12, as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. Rent is an exuberant, East Village rock version of La Bohème, which brings Puccini’s famous opera bang up-to date. Stirring and life-affirming, Rent captures the heart and spirit of a generation of struggling artists, addicts and impoverished young people living in the shadow of Aids, battling the coming wave of gentrification. A time capsule of a world where hope crawls out of dark despair, these Bohemians find the salvation of love with each other and prove there can be a better world. There will be a preview on September 8 and a special anniversary gala performance on September 11.
