250th anniversary for Carmarthen library

People are invited to take a trip down memory lane to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Carmarthen Library building. Furnace House was built in 1761 for local ironmaster Robert Morgan and his family. Robert and his brother John were founders of the Carmarthen Furnace in 1747, and of the Tinworks in 1761. The building survived throughout the decades, until much of it was demolished in 1972, leaving only the facade and the forecourt; and the shell was completely rebuilt. Carmarthen Library moved in following completion of the work, and since then thousands of pounds has been invested to modernise the building. The library was previously located in Spilman Street which had tiny rooms heated by coal fires. People with any memories of the library in its various locations around Carmarthen are asked to share them with the public as a celebration of the anniversary of the Furnace House building.
