Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi, TRIO, Joy Cornock, Dawnswyr Talog - Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi annual concert at Gwenllian Centre, Kidwelly. There’s a Welsh word that sums up this concert staged by Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi. It is ‘bendigedig’, meaning splendid. You could throw a few other Welsh words into the mix – ‘gwych’ and ‘ardderchog’, for example, and you would get a decent idea of how it all went. Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi have a fine reputation as one of the smaller male voice choirs in Wales. Indeed, they only fielded 19 choristers on Saturday night, but, rather like the Welsh football team, they are a great team unit and #TogetherStronger. The posters on the wall were all about precision engineering and powerful gearboxes – but there was nothing mechanical about Côr Meibion Llanelli’s performance at the Gravells Subaru showroom in Kidwelly. Yes, they were precise. Yes, they provided some interesting musical gear-changes. Yes, there was plenty of power. But there was much, much more – and , as always, it was all served up with a passion which has become a hallmark of one of the finest choirs in Wales. The concert was a fund-raiser for the Llanelli Sea Cadet Corps (TS Echo) to commemorate their 70th anniversary and the Warship Week (1942) adoption by ‘Llanelly’ of the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Echo. The President of TS Echo, Lt Col David Mathias, provided the military background to the occasion in an illuminating opening address. Côr Meibion Llanelli members are well accustomed to chalking up firsts, but their next concert will be a little out of the ordinary for even the hardened veterans of the choir. The venue will be the car showroom at the Gravells dealership in Kidwelly. “We’ve performed all over the world and at some astonishing concert venues, but I think this will be the first time we have performed in a car showroom,” said choir secretary Fred Elias. “Having said that, Gravells in Kidwelly is no ordinary car showroom. It’s a swish venue and I am sure the surroundings will lend themselves to it being a hugely successful concert.” The concert, on Saturday, February 18, will be in aid of TS Echo Llanelli, the Llanelli Sea Cadets Training Ship. Côr Meibion Llanelli created their very own musical Christmas cracker for their annual Christmas Concert at Theatr Elli, Llanelli. It had spark and a whole host of goodies to entertain a full house at Theatr Elli. Pulling the strings as MC was BBC Radio presenter Chris Needs, who brought his own brand of festive fun to the proceedings. Côr Meibion Llanelli musical director D Eifion Thomas put together a varied programme, with the accent firmly on the Christmas theme and plenty of audience participation. As well as the traditional Carols, the audience happily supplied ‘backing’ to White Christmas and the spiritual A-Rockin’ All Night. Soprano Joy Cornock added more sparkle to the evening with solo spots featuring Panis Angelicus, Noel, Little Road to Bethlehem and Ser y Nadolig. It promises to be just what you need to get into the Christmas spirit.  Cor Meibion Llanelli’s annual Christmas Concert is being staged at Theatr Elli, Llanelli, on Saturday, December 17. The show is being compered by the radio star who runs the biggest ‘Garden’ in Wales, Chris Needs, pictured above.
