Nominations sought for Aberystwyth University Honorary Awards 2018

The deadline for nominations for individuals to be considered for an Honorary Award at Aberystwyth University’s 2018 graduation ceremonies is midnight on Monday 23 October 2017. Nominations can be submitted by members of staff, students and members of the public. The University confers a number of Honorary Fellowships, Honorary Doctorate and Bachelor degrees every year. Honorary Fellowships are awarded to honour individuals who have, or have had a connection with Aberystwyth or Wales in general, and who have made an outstanding contribution to their chosen field. Those honoured in recent years include award winning novelist and The Times columnist Caitlin Moran, journalist and presenter Robert Peston, former Australian Prime Minster Julia Gillard and naturalist and television presenter Iolo Williams. BBC Food and Farming Awards - vote now!

Two restaurant chefs, a prison cook and a celebrated food blogger are leading a BBC mission to find the very best in British food and farming. Raymond Blanc and Richard Corrigan are being joined by Al Crisci, the founder of the Clink restaurant in Highdown prison and blogger Jack Monroe, on the 2014 judging team of the BBC Food and Farming Awards. Nominations open for Brin Isaac awards

Nominations are now open for the annual Brin Isaac sports awards. The event, which has six categories, looks to reward local talent for excelling in sporting activities. Categories include the Brin Isaac Trophy — sportsperson of the year; Walter Hughes Cup — senior runner-up; Star Cup — junior sportsperson of the year; Stradey Centenary Cup — junior runner-up; Kelly Evans Shield — services to sport; W Jack Hughes Cup — coach of the year. The winner of last year's main award was 400 metres hurdler Dai Greene. This year's event is at the Stradey Park Hotel on Tuesday, December 6.
