Guide for healthcare services in Pembrokeshire during the holiday season

Hywel Dda University Health Board has produced a short guide to remind people living or visiting Pembrokeshire how to access healthcare services for women and children, ahead of the holiday season. Some changes to hospital based services, in the areas of maternity, gynaecology and neonatal care, were made in August 2014 and to paediatric hospital inpatient services in October 2014. Most care remains unchanged and the guide aims to remind people about what is still provided within Pembrokeshire, either within the community or from Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest. It also provides contact information about how to access these services, as well as those provided from Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen. Chief Executive Steve Moore said: “We hope this short guide will assist anyone who may still be unsure about what our services for women and children look like and how to access them. “We heard concern when we went out into the community as part of our new ongoing engagement events – Let’s Ta...

Safety Partnership advice for going away on holiday

Image
Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership is offering tips to ensure your peace of mind while you are away on holiday by making sure your home is secure. Almost half of all burglaries happen when a house or flat is empty but the risk can be reduced by taking simple safety measures. Police community safety officer PC Rob Chapman said: “It’s a good idea to get help from family members or your neighbours. You could ask them to collect post, park in the drive, mow the lawn, open and close curtains, and so on. Anything to make the place look lived in. “Don’t advertise the fact that you are going away. For instance, don’t stand around with your cases waiting for a taxi. Simply pack your things, pack the car and go.” He also advised letting a neighbour know when you are on holiday and how to contact you, or someone who can act on your behalf, in an emergency.

Healthy Wednesday advice from the Hywel Dda Health Board

Healthy Wednesday advice from the Hywel Dda Health Board -  This Healthy Wednesday we are reminding you to think about Choosing Well when you get ready for the long Easter weekend. The Choose Well campaign uses a colour coded thermometer to help people to link their symptoms with a NHS service. The aim is to raise awareness of the full range of services available so that people are well-informed about where and when to access services that will best meet their needs. This helps ensure that essential treatment is given in the shortest possible time and that busy emergency services can help those who need them most. Plan ahead for your Easter break by having essential medicines at home in a child safe cupboard or first aid kit including pain killing medicine e.g. paracetamol, anti-diarrhoeal medicine, plasters and a thermometer. If you do become unwell you can find out which pharmacy is open close to you over the long weekend by going to www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/862/page/46867 or...

Secure your home before going on holiday

Residents of Carmarthenshire are being encouraged to ensure peace of mind while they are away on holiday by making sure their homes are secure. Almost half of all burglaries happen when a house or flat is empty but the risk can be reduced by taking simple safety measures. The Community Safety Partnership’s Acquisitive Crime Action Group, which has representatives from the police, fire and rescue service and Carmarthenshire County Council, has discussed what householders can do to reduce the already low risk of being burgled. Wildlife and environmental concerns during holidays

Wildlife and Environmental concerns during Holidays | Dyfed Powys Police | Heddlu Dyfed Powys During the holidays earlier this year Sergeant Matthew Howells, Wildlife and Environmental Crime Sergeant for Dyfed Powys Police, noticed that several calls were made to the police regarding children and adults displaying anti-social behaviour at public parks and attractions where there was wildlife on display. In particular, there were calls regarding children throwing stones at ducks and swans on rivers and canals and adults encouraging their dogs to swim after ducks on ponds. Matthew would like to remind the public that the animals are there for pleasure not persecution.

Parents reminded of vaccinations ahead of summer holidays

Hywel Dda Health Board | Parents reminded of vaccinations ahead of summer holidays Parents in Wales booking their summer holidays are being reminded to make sure they also book an appointment for their children to receive their vaccinations. Public Health Wales has issued a reminder that diseases rare in the UK do still circulate in popular holiday destinations and can be a serious threat to Welsh children. Parents are being urged not only to ensure their children receive the vaccinations required for travel abroad, but also to arrange for them to catch up on any of the routine vaccinations given in the UK that they might have missed.
