Rising movie star Samira Mohamed Ali is to see her award-winning first British feature film receive a 'Welsh Premiere' screening in Port Talbot. The supernatural feature Molly Crows will be screened at the Reel Cinema in Port Talbot on Monday, October 28, at the start of Halloween week. The event is being used as a fundraiser for the Better Life Appeal and Cerddwn Ymlaen (Walk On) in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance. Swansea-based Samira is one of the stars of Molly Crows, a feature film made by a relatively unknown British director. The film won Best Drama at London’s Portobello Film Festival when it was screened for its UK premiere. The movie also received praise when it had its world premiere in the Cannes Festival earlier this year. “To scoop the main prize at the Portobello Film Festival was wonderful,” said 28-year-old Samira. “There’s a very young team behind Molly Crows. A man has been fined £200 by magistrates for dropping litter in Carmarthen. Carl John Wilkinson, aged 34, of Min Y Coed, Tonmawr, Port Talbot, was also ordered to pay £315.57 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Wilkinson failed to attend Carmarthen Magistrates Court for the offence contrary under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the case was proven in his absence. The prosecution was brought by Carmarthenshire County Council. The court heard that council environmental enforcement officers were on duty in the Myrtle Hill area of Carmarthen when they saw a parked vehicle with a takeaway bag and cigarette packet underneath. The officers approached the vehicle and identified themselves to the driver who conceded he deposited the items of litter on the ground. He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 but failed to pay it within the specified time. A Port Talbot woman has been prosecuted by Carmarthenshire County Council for dropping litter. Paula Catrina Upton, aged 34, of Villiers Street, Port Talbot, was convicted in absence to an offence under Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court. The court heard that council environmental enforcement officers were on duty in the Co-op car park in Cross Hands Business Park when they saw a woman get out of a vehicle and drop a piece of litter onto the grass. The officers approached the woman and explained who they were and what they had witnessed. When asked why she did it, she said:“ I didn’t want any rubbish in the car.” Upton was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 but failed to pay it and was prosecuted in court as a result. She was fined £200 and ordered to pay £303.64 towards prosecution costs as well as a £15 victim surcharge. The good news is that Town came through the examination with flying colours, with a well-organised and robust defence balanced by some quick-fire and determined counter-attacking. Nicky Palmer's 19th minute strike gave Tomi Morgan’s men the best possible start. The move started with a positive break from the back. Acclaimed Hollywood star Michael Sheen has carried out his first ‘official duty’ as a patron of the Healing The Wounds charity which helps treat sufferers of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Michael wowed members of the ladies coffee morning section of the Naval Club at Sandfields, Port Talbot, as he helped present a cheque to Healing The Wounds Charity. The £1,500 cheque was presented to Kevin Richards, founder and Executive Director of the charity. Mr Richards said: “We were delighted when Michael Sheen agreed to become a patron of the charity. “Michael is very interested in the work of the charity and we are sure that he will help us put the charity firmly on the map in Wales.” Sheen recently completed an epic open-air production of The Passion in his hometown of Port Talbot. He is famous the world over for his film roles, which include playing Tony Blair, David Frost and Brian Clough.
