The Coed Panteg Woodland Co-op in Ferryside aims to share essential skills in charcoal making with residents and small community woodlands in Carmarthenshire. Coed Panteg works with volunteers from the local community and large groups of young people led by the Prince’s Trust. The RDP Sir Gâr’s Zero Carbon Future (ZCF) project has now provided funding for the group to purchase a charcoal kiln and to deliver a weekend course on coppicing and charcoal making. The kiln will be available for future use by other community groups to produce charcoal and for demonstration/educational purposes. The kiln is portable and will enable the production of charcoal on small community woodlands in the immediate area. Social entrepreneur Kevin Green was delighted to give the Prince of Wales first hand feedback on how The Prince’s Trust is helping change lives. Hywel Dda Health Board and Prince’s Trust Cymru’s Get into Health programme has won in the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the prestigious Inspire Wales Awards. The ceremony, held in Cardiff, recognised unsung heroes and sources of inspiration across Wales. The Prince’s Trust Cymru Get into Health programme gives unemployed young people the skills, confidence and work experience they need to find a job in the NHS. Hywel Dda Health Board’s Chief Executive Trevor Purt said: “I am so proud of the scheme and the young people and staff that have got involved and demonstrates such commitment. “To date, more than 100 young people from across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire have taken part and received an insight into employment and career opportunities available in the NHS. Hywel Dda Health Board | Young people in Ceredigion - Get Into Health A programme to help young people get an insight into the roles in the NHS has been a success. Hywel Dda Health Board and The Prince’s Trust Cymru ran the Get into Health programme in Ceredigion. Working in partnership, Hywel Dda Health Board and The Prince’s Trust Cymru provided five week placements for 13 young adults, aged 18 -25, in many different areas in healthcare from fire safety to mental health administration and health records to estates. It is the third time the health board has run the programme which helps young people improve their teamwork and communication skills, boost their confidence, develop interview skills and enhance their CV.

Young people in Llanelli have had a go at becoming firefighters for the day. Members of The Prince’s Trust got kitted out, used a hose and went up and down ladders at Llanelli Fire Station as part of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s ‘Firefighter for a Day’ initiative. As well as learning all about the work of a firefighter, the youngsters were also given vital fire safety and road safety advice. Members of Team 131 were treated to a guided tour of the station, looking at the equipment on the engine and other appliances. They then put on fire kit, taking part in hose running and ladders, and shown how to fight a fire. Other activities included searching techniques where the youngsters were given blanked off goggles to wear while looking for a dummy. The youngsters were also given a chip pan fire demonstration while getting fire safety tips.
