Bowled over by success for Carmarthen sports club's takeover

A Carmarthen bowls committee has taken over the day to day running of its club. Bro Myrddin Bowls Club is now being managed by a board of trustees as part of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Community Asset Transfer scheme. The board, made up of seven bowls members, secured the 25-year lease following a handover this week. Community Asset Transfer (CAT) is the transfer of land or buildings from the Council to the management of a local organisation. This transfer is typically arranged via a long lease with the organisation responsible for the running and management of the asset and all associated costs. Trustees’ chairman, Arthur Collinge said: "This is a wonderful occasion, something we have been working towards for two years and it’s a win-win situation for both the council and the Indoor Bowls Committee. Bumper £700 prize on offer at annual Arthur Cambrey Memorial bowls tournament | Llanelli Star A bumper prize fund of £700 will be on offer at the annual Arthur Cambrey Memorial four-wood pairs bowls tournament at Parc Howard, Llanelli later this month. The tournament, sponsored by Golden Charter, will be held on Sunday, August 24 and Monday, August 25, starting at 9.30am on the Sunday.

The Welsh Women’s Bowling Association invited the Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council to the Under 25s International and British Isles Championships in Llanelli. Chair Cllr Siân Thomas was invited to bowl the first bowl at the event at Parc Howard. The competition featured representatives from Wales, England, Ireland and Scotland. It was the first time for the event to be held in Llanelli.

In-form Carmarthen bowlers pick up two more wins | This is South Wales Carmarthen Bowls Club's impressive early season form was given further a boost with two more wins. They entertained BP Llandarcy in the Harry Gooding Shield and won 56-52, then travelled to Gorseinon in the Carruthers Shield and won 77-68. Carmarthen remain unbeaten in both competitions.

Stanton retains world title in Llanelli

Stanton retains world title (From Cotswold Journal) Amy Stanton had to put friendship aside to retain a prestigious indoor bowls international honour. The 22-year-old won the under 25s women’s singles title at the World Indoor Bowls Council Championship. At the event, held in Llanelli, South Wales, she defeated Rebecca Field, of Norfolk, by two sets to love 7-6, 8-4.

Try your hand at bowls in Carmarthen

Anyone wanting to try bowls is being invited to roll up at the Bro Myrddin Bowling Stadium at Picton Terrace, Carmarthen. The centre is opening its doors to the public to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take up the sport of bowls for just a £1 for two weeks at evening sessions in September 19th to 30th. The club has an active junior section and organised coaching sessions for nine to – 16 year olds on Saturday mornings between 10 and – 11:30 a.m starting on September 17th. The junior section is an important part of the club and youngsters are given every opportunity to develop their talents. Competitions for juniors are held within the club and the more talented youngsters are chosen to represent the club in national competitions. A number of juniors have in the past represented their country and last season Steffan Harries, a pupil at Ysgol Bro Myrddin had the honour of representing Wales at Under 18 level. Bowls pavilion plan gets green light

Plans for disabled access improvements to the Bowls Pavilion in Llanelli have been given the go ahead. Carmarthenshire County Council planning committee granted an application by the local authority for a new ramped access to the pavilion in Parc y Dre, Park Crescent, and for an extension to the rear for a toilet cubicle.
