Online bookings are now being taken for a host of exciting sporting activities planned at this year’s Eisteddfod. Youngsters will be spoilt for choice during the weeklong event as a wide variety of pursuits such as tennis, athletics, cricket, netball, cycling, multi skills, rugby, tri-golf, boccia and football are on offer. There will also be table top games, family fun activities, dance mats, a climbing wall and an activity corner for those wishing to try out a new sport. The popular Actif Storytime sessions for the under 5s will be held from the Amphitheatre on Wednesday, August 6. Scarlets players Rhys Priestland, Ken Owens, Regan King and Emyr Phillips, along with We Cycle Wales, will also be taking part in the fun packed programme. Free summer activities for children are taking place in Ammanford Library during the school holidays. They start with the launch of the Creepy House Summer Reading Challenge on July 24 at 11am. Children aged from four to 10 can listen to stories and decorate their very own creepy house in the library. Thousands of families across the country take part in the UK’s biggest reading event for children in libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge, run by the charity The Reading Agency. Each year there is a different theme and the aim of the challenge is to get children to read six books from their library during the summer holidays. On July 31, a free film show will take place with “Wreck-it Ralph” being screened, the recommended viewing age is eight and over. Stories and crafts about the seaside take place on a beach inside the library on August 13, from 11am. Seaside Storytime is aimed at children aged between four and 10.
