Hunt for owners of abandoned animals in 'pitiful condition' | This is South Wales People are being urged to come forward with information after two ponies and a horse were found abandoned near the Amman Valley. The RSPCA said the animals were discovered in a pitiful condition in two separate incidents within the past two weeks. The first was on Cwmgors Mountain and the other near Glanaman. It follows a spate of horses being abandoned in the county, notably in Kidwelly and Llanelli last year.

New 'get tough' policy on stray horses

Robust policies are being put in place to dispose of stray horses in Carmarthenshire. A stakeholders meeting of those having concerns of stray horses across the county was called in Llanelli to find a solution to the problem which escalated, especially in the Llanelli coast area, over the Christmas holiday period. Police who were present at the meeting agreed to support Carmarthenshire County Council and prosecute those found responsible for straying horses and damages caused by them for recent past incidents and any in the future. Stakeholders present at the meeting included public and private sector landowners and the RSPCA. Those who had incurred costs with damaged or fouled ground were asked to draw up costs of restitution so they could be presented to those who might be prosecuted. Worry over stray horses in Llanelli

Horses are running wild over 14 miles of Llanelli coastline from Bynea to Kidwelly. Irresponsible horse owners are risking huge claims for damages or causing accidents with the horses running over parks, gardens and roads and putting lives at risk. Carmarthenshire County Council is photographing the horses to match up identities with known owners. Thirteen horses were counted at Penclacwydd marshes where one was found dying of hypothermia last week, eight at Pwll Park and another was found roaming on the old Khymer Canal off Kidwelly Quay. Carmarthenshire council has been fielding scores of complaints but the horses are a moving group and rarely stay in the same place long enough to be caught. Millennium Coastal Park rangers rounded up eight horses in Pwll Park after complaints from the public (on Thurday) who called the police who in term contacted the council.
