Withybush Hospital’s midwife led service is marking its one year anniversary with a celebratory tea party from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday 8 August. Hosted by our friendly midwives, mums, dads and little ones are warmly invited to join the celebrations, as well as mums-to-be who would like to find out more about the homely and relaxed facilities available and the expert care midwives can provide. Midwife Sian Phillips is hoping the event will help celebrate the 134 births the midwife-led service has seen in the past year: “It will be wonderful to celebrate this milestone with parents, grandparents and little ones, some of whom I’m sure are not so little anymore! Midwives will also be on hand if any parents-to-be would like to visit the Unit and find out more over a cup of tea and cake.” The Midwife Led Unit at Withybush, Heverfordwest, provides three birthing suites, including a dedicated birthing pool room, each complete with mood lighting and en suite facilities. The renovation of Withybush Hospital’s Midwife Led Unit is nearing completion and is set to open on Monday (10 November). Following the introduction of midwifery led care in August, building works have ongoing within the maternity ward to provide a modern and purpose designed facility to mums who want to deliver in a homely and relaxed atmosphere. Catherine Cotter, Head of Midwifery and Women’s Health said: “It will be wonderful for our midwives and mums alike to start using this modern facility on Monday. It has been designed with comfort and relaxation in mind whilst providing an environment that caters for the needs of mums, partners and families. “I’d like to pass on my personal thanks to everyone who has contributed over the past few months; many members of staff from numerous different teams have come together. Hywel Dda University Health Board has thanked staff following the introduction of new Midiwfe Led Units at Glangwili and Withybush Hospitals and the move of special care baby and obstetric services from Withybush Hospital to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. From Monday 4 August, special care baby services are provided from a modern, purpose built unit at Glangwili Hospital. Also, women from Pembrokeshire requiring additional care during pregnancy, labour or birth will be advised to give birth in the Consultant Led Unit at Glangwili Hospital. The purpose built Midwife Led Unit opened on Monday 4 August and baby Lola May Harman was born on Thursday 7 August. Mum Sarah, baby and proud Dad Keiran from Cardigan are doing well. The Midwife Led Unit in Glangwili, Carmarthen, has been designed for women who want to deliver in a homely and relaxed atmosphere whilst being cared for by midwives who are experts in normal births. Glangwili’s Midwife Led Unit has four en-suite birthing rooms and birthing pools are also available for women who find that the use of water helps them to feel more comfortable during labour. Baby Tia was born on Wednesday 6 August to proud parents Lorie and Michael from Pembroke. All are doing well.
