Plans for an Eco Park at Machynys in Llanelli have been put forward by Carmarthenshire County Council. The scheme drawn up by the council’s regeneration department goes hand in hand with an application for housing on neighbouring land. The Eco Park will have a network of footpaths, ponds and landscaping. It is planned to enhance the appearance of the area through landscaping and planting, and to make the site more accessible. The proposed scheme will enhance former industrial land to create an area of historical, environmental and ecological value. Physical Regeneration Manager Stuart Walters said: “The proposed development will enhance the local landscape and character of the area by creating a high quality environment to support local ecology and provide a valuable amenity space for the existing and future communities of South Llanelli.” Planting in the landscaped area will offer many tones of colour and textures. Carms Construction Ltd — formerly known as Machynys Homes Construction — has instructed liquidators Harris Lipman LLP to help place the company into liquidation.

A Llanelli site that was once an illegal gypsy encampment and burning ground for stolen cars has been transformed to a stunning housing estate acclaimed the best in Britain. Pentre Nicholas Village, phases 4a and 5, Machynys, Llanelli, not only represented Wales and won the 2010 LABC (England and Wales) Building Excellence Awards in the best large housing category last week, but also won the supreme award as being best of the best development anywhere in the UK. Works totalling £150,000 have been carried out to strengthen the Carmarthenshire coastline from Loughor to Pendine. Members of the council’s Environment Scrutiny Committee have visited key sites along the coast to view the various schemes which have been carried out over the last year. It is part of the committee’s ongoing monitoring of the threat posed by coastal erosion. First stop was Loughor where an £80,000 scheme has been completed to strengthen existing defences including toe armour. Next the members were taken to Machynys where £10,000 has been spent on the maintenance and management of existing defences. Works of £30,000 have been carried out at Llanelli beach which includes the management and maintenance of defended coastline including dune management. The committee’s final stop was at Pendine where a £30,000 scheme has been undertaken including the installation of transitional works into eroding dune to prevent erosion to the promenade and Museum of Speed.
