Carmarthen Town AFC have unveiled plans for an exciting community project based around a new 3G all-weather football pitch at Richmond Park. The installation of the 3G pitch will be the catalyst for a wide-ranging community programme based around the Welsh Premier League club. “The club’s intention is to help create a wider community benefit by helping and supporting people to reach their full potential,” said Project Manager and Club Director Jeff Thomas. Mr Thomas said the club was forging a number of key partnerships to progress the 3G project. The cost of the 3G pitch will be in the region of £560,000, with the club currently looking at filling a shortfall of £150,000 for the scheme. Welsh Premier League side Carmarthen Town AFC have announced an innovative ground sponsorship deal at their home at Richmond Park. A three-year deal sees the ground named as the Vibrant Vapours Stadium. "It's a bold step for us," said Carmarthen Town AFC chairman Jeff Thomas. "But, in this very competitive age, we have to be bold to secure the funding we need to progress as a top class Welsh Premier League side. "Carmarthen Town has always been at the cutting edge of innovation in the Welsh Premier League. Carmarthen Town's grant application to the Football Association of Wales for a 3G all-weather pitch to be laid at Richmond Park has been successful. The decision was communicated to the Welsh Premier League club's chairman Jeff Thomas who said: "I am delighted with the news. "The fact that we have been awarded this finance means that on completion of the project Richmond Park can now be seen as an all-year round facility which can only be of benefit to the community. "While the award is extremely generous further grant aid will be necessary to complete the project." Mr Thomas added: "We are well on our way to achieving the full amount with support having already been agreed by two other bodies and with a further grant application being considered at this time. Former Carmarthen Town AFC football club President Mr Anthony Jenkins was honoured at a special evening function at club's Community Centre in Richmond Park. Anthony was President of the club for more than 16 years and could be seen carrying out all kinds of duties for the club. He could be seen manning the turnstile and selling raffles as well as representing the club at official functions. Peter Hughes Griffiths, the compere for the evening, paid tribute not only to Anthony’s contribution to the football club but also to the community of Carmarthen Town. Anthony emphasised how far the club had developed during his time as President, noting the visit to Seven Sisters at the start of his period in office and visiting the Rasunda Stadium in Stockholm for Carmarthen Town’s first ever away fixture in Europe. Mr Thomas, pictured above, has been at the helm for the last 14 years, a period of unprecedented success on and off the football field.
