Llanelly Pottery stolen in raid on Parc Howard Mansion

Thieves have broken into the museum at Parc Howard Mansion and stole pieces of Llanelly Pottery. Two cases of the pottery were broken into and stolen during the theft which took place on the evening of Wednesday, February 12. The incident was reported to police by Carmarthenshire County Council staff who discovered the break in this morning. Executive Board Member for museums Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “This was a shameful incident, these items are of historical importance to the town and to steal them is a despicable act. “We hope the police will recover them and also catch the thieves who did this. “We would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident to contact the police.” Llanelly Pottery is part of the heritage of the town and has been on show at the Mansion House for many years. It was manufactured from 1839 until 1922 at a site where Asda in Llanelli now stands. Llanelly Pottery continues to hold a fascination for many enthusiasts and collectors.

'Dog ban' signs stolen from Llansteffan beach

Signs banning dogs from Llansteffan beach have been stolen. Four signs which read ‘No dogs beyond this point’ have disappeared from their posts. The council has condemned those responsible and it has been reported it to the police as criminal damage. The byelaw bans dogs from the beach between May 1 and September 30. Environmental enforcement officers regularly patrol the area and anyone caught breaching the byelaw can be prosecuted. Four people were recently reported for summons to court and if convicted, the maximum fine that can be imposed by magistrates by is £500. Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “These signs will now have to be replaced and that costs money; money that could be much better spent. “Dog mess has been found on the beach so it is obvious people are ignoring the byelaw; but now they have gone one step further. “This is criminal damage and it has been reported it to the police.
